Dr. Barbara Benoliel is a professional facilitator and mediator specializing in managing inter- personal relationships and problem solving with people in organizations. She holds degrees in Psychology, Organizational Behaviour, and her Ph.D. is in Criminal Justice. She is the President of Preferred Solutions, a full-service conflict management company. Her practice
area is with:

  • Partnership Disputes

  • Human Rights Complaints, Investigations and Resolution

Through Preferred Solutions, Barbara offers facilitation of workplace disputes, mediation, training programs and interventions related to all aspects of people working together effectively.


In her career, she has combined practice with advancing knowledge in the field. She has been a course developer and leader at York University in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate Program and at Schulich School of Business, in the Department of Policy, under the Tannenbaum Chair of Family Enterprise. As well she has lectured at Osgoode Law School, Simon Fraser University, Ryerson University, and the University of Calgary. She is a
senior Professor at Walden University based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. She is a licensed private investigator in the Province of Ontario.


Barbara is the Past President of the ADR Institute of Ontario, President of Just People, a justice advocacy collective, and has served as a member of the Board of Canadian Association for Family Enterprise, and the Research Ethics Board of the Hospital for Sick Children.


She has volunteered in Restorative Justice programs for PACT, Peacebuilders International and Youth Services of Peel. She continues as a member of ADRIO, The International Ombuds Association, The Association for Workplace Investigations and the European Forum for Restorative Justice.
