BUILDING BEATS

Learn how to create digital music online with instructor, music producer, and audio engineer, Jesse Klein. We will explore various musical genres and sounds, and produce our own instrumental tracks using professional theory and techniques.

 

Jesse Klein is a Toronto-based musician, producer, composer, audio engineer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist who plays with several bands. Utilizing groove-based production techniques and live recorded elements, he creates sonic beauty across genres including, but not limited to, Hip Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Rock, Folk, and Ambient.

Mic

CREATIVE SONGWRITING

For aspiring songwriter, poets, and creative souls who are open to exploring self-expression through words and rhythm.
 

In this weekly drop-in group workshop with instructor Micah Sky, we will:
 

  • Learn different poetic devices and how to use them in songwriting

  • Analyze song structure, rhythm, and rhyme

  • Review poetic movements in history and see how they are reflected in popular songs

  • Share your original songwriting and poetry in a safe, supportive environment

  • Try out fun creative writing prompts to inspire your unique expression

  • Discuss what makes our favourite songs great

Micah Sky is a Toronto born singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer and educator.  In addition to writing, recording, and producing his own material, he also writes, performs and produces with electronic duo “Cloud Ultrasound”, funk and blues band “Pudding”, and plays keyboards for blues and soul artist Conor Gains, as well as several other local artists. He performs classic covers at markets and festivals across the city under the name “Sky & Rose” with his partner Liana. He’s also played on festival stages and venues across North America. Micah also teaches music at with Jamlab Music and privately with his own students. He takes great joy in illuminating and nurturing musical creativity while giving his students tools and techniques to create and grow on their own.

Sewing Machine

FASHION

Fashion, styling, photography, and more in this creative, 8-week program.

 

In this program, youth will learn practical sewing and mending skills, learn about fashion photography and create photoshoots with their own clothing. Participants will receive a Patch Kit with all the materials needed for the program, including sewing needles, embroidery thread, fabric interfacing and more. Youth will learn about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and work on upcycling existing garments, creating masks and other items to donate.

 

Irene Stickney is the head designer, seamstress and project lead of PACTFashion. After attending Ryerson University in Toronto for Fashion Design, Irene worked in production at Jones New York and then as an alterationist at 69 Vintage before opening her own sewing studio, The Make Den.

Heart & Hands

CROCHET CLUB

Get Hooked! Be creative and learn how to crochet.

 

Join our instructor, Kaitlyn, to learn the basics of crochet, socialize, and make new friends. In this 8-week program, youth will learn how to make projects such as blankets and hats.

 

Participants will also have the opportunity to earn community service hours by donating finished projects to those in need.

Film

FILM CLUB

Join the conversation! An inclusive space to have some fun, make new friends, and talk about our favourite movies. This drop-in program is designed to bolster communication, connection, and social skills for teens while providing a casual environment to enjoy films and unwind together. Grab some popcorn and join Taylor for an afternoon movie break.

INDIVIDUAL MUSIC LESSONS

One-on-one music lessons in guitar, bass, and vocals with musicians/ instructors Jesse and Micah. Private online lessons are available for youth who have shown interest in group workshops and want to go further with their musical development.

 

It is preferable that youth have access to their own instrument; however, a lending arrangement may be available. Please inquire for more information.
