PACTFilm

Building Urban Peace in partnership with the courts and schools

A guerrilla filmmaking project for at-risk youth

PACTFilm has been in operation since the fall of 2005, offering instruction in many facets of film production to at-risk youth across the GTA. The project is run by industry professionals who empower youth and allow them to take ownership and develop creative film projects. The youth experience a sense of accomplishment through the development, shooting, and editing of their own short film productions.

PACTFilm projects are created in a collaborative/team environment focused on delivering positive messages on issues facing urban youth including:  youth or domestic violence and crime; food security; the environment; culture and faith issues, etc.

PACTFilm runs in Scarborough, North York and Downtown as well in select schools as integrated after-school programming.

Program offers offending youth a second chance

“a 16-year-old who had had several run-ins with police officers, was now making a short film through the program. The young man was in charge of directing a scene with a police officer -- in this case, a sergeant who volunteered to be part of the production. It broke down the young man’s impressions of what police stand for or mean to him."
